What does Rise Over Run stand for?
Choosing a name for a business was an exciting step, but I also wanted to be sure it wasn't "just a name." The first meaningful component I desired to incorporate was the concept of rising up, which is a phrase I use for myself frequently after reading a parable about the crow and the eagle.
The classic telling of this story unfolds in the skies:
The crow is the only bird brave (or foolish) enough to attack an eagle. It will land on the eagle's back and relentlessly peck at its neck. The eagle could easily use its superior strength to fight back, but it doesn't waste its time or energy.
Instead, the eagle remains calm, opens its massive wings, and begins to soar higher and higher into the sky. As the eagle reaches higher altitudes, the air becomes too thin for the crow to handle. Deprived of oxygen, the crow loses its strength, can no longer hold on, and simply falls away. The eagle is then left to fly in peace.

The power of this story in reminding us that we can choose to seek a higher place of being that's different from our usual choices, is so very helpful because it's calling us to make a conscious choice in how we would like to deal with a situation or circumstance. The power rests in our thoughts and choices. The feather in the logo represents this parable, and the background of being up in the sky gives us that view.
The phrase "rise over run" is actually the mathematical formula for slope. If we are using a hill or mountain for an example, and the rise is greater than the run, it generates a steeper incline. If the rise is less than the run, the climb will be less steep and strenuous, but potentially longer. As we learn to adjust the figurative rise and run of our circumstance and lives, we can adjust how long or strenuous the situation feels. Maybe we know we need to get somewhere quickly, and it's going to be steep, but we're ready for it and want to navigate this.
The more literal interpretation of this name, is calling on us to rise up and face challenges, instead of running from them. I had a friend interpret it as rising up and running forward to meet a goal. The possibilities are endless, and I'm hoping it can hold a unique meaning for each individual that stops to ponder it.
